Our Church History
Grace UMC was started in 1871 as the Center School Sunday School, part of the Eangelical Church (Jacob Albright). It moved to Story City in 1876. Our heritage is Norwegian, Danish and Swedish.
In 1883, we built our first building, and in 1914 our second building was erected. Our current church building was finished in 1961, and was dedicated on the 90th Anniversary of our church.
Grace Evangelical joined the United Brethren on Christ denomination on November 16, 1946, forming the Evangelical United Brethren Denomination. The UBC was founded by Phillip Otterbien and Martin Boehm in 1766, and became an official denomination in 1800.
In May of 1968, the Evangelical United Brethren Church joined the Methodist Church to form the United Methodist Church. Thus, Grace EUB became Grace United Methodist Church, as it was known today.
